Quick and easy "ITH" Stitched Block for hoops 8x8 or larger

Downloadable content included with the course: Project Sheet with supplies, materials list, and cutting information. Embroidery files in .jef, .pes and .vp3 formats - 11 designs this month

The blocks this month are all stitching and inspired by a piece of Sidewalk Chalk artwork I saw while on a neighborhood walk. One base design with a lot of variations. There are 8” blocks with light and heavy fill and two blocks with just the outlines. Also, 8” blocks that are ¼ of the design, so four blocks make a 16” block (actual size when stitched will be closer to 15 ½”); these also have light and heavy fill and outlines only.

I used Matte thread to make the stitching look a bit more Chalk-like. The colors I choose stitched on the mottled grey fabric make the design very subtle – the pictures don’t show the contrast very well; it is a charming effect. The heavy fill blocks may be a bit stiff for a quilt, but I can see these as Potholders with the 16” block as placemats or trivets

NOTE

This block is part of the yearly 8” BOM Club.

Enrollment in the yearly club includes the “General Instructions” section with detailed information on Stitching, trimming, and joining, Sashing, Invisible Sashing, Applique, Rag Edge Applique, Whole Cloth Backs, Borders and Corners, and how to Bind the blocks.

The General information is also available as the single course

“8 Inch BOM General Instructions.”

Hi, I’m PJ

Since 2006 I’ve been a teacher at Montavilla Sewing Centers in the Portland Metro area. I design, produce and teach the monthly projects for Babylock Serger Club, Janome, BabyLock and Brother Machine Embroidery Club, and 8” Block of the month Club.

I have a lot of fun creating projects, designs, and patterns that incorporate techniques and products to encourage the students to get the most out of their Sergers or Embroidery Machines.
